About me

The COVID quarantine has proved to be one of the toughest situations ever suffered by mankind. Not only fear, injustice and chaos gained more control over our weak society, but also it was this panic and anxiety that made us forget who we really are. I agree with you, this may not be the kindest of introductions but it certainly helps me to contextualize the difficulty of this first entry. 

Who am I? is a vast and philosophical question. However, nowadays immensity is bigger and it may seem that time isn't enough to really comprehend who a person is. For simplicity and familiarity, all I could tell you is a facebook-like description: I'm a 20-year-old male human who lives in Mexico and studies a Computer Science major at the same school as you (ITESM). Nevertheless, specifications are not enough to summarize the complex representation of a human being. I'm a person who has its own hobbies and passions. For instance, I find video games and music (listening to as well as playing an instrument like bass, piano and drums) entertaining activities along with writing and singing. Philosophy, anthropology, history, and science -including technology- are my favorite subjects of study and I hope that some day I can contribute something to, at least, one of them. Alike you, I love spending time with my family, my girlfriend and my friends. In addition to that, I enjoy meeting  people and getting to know them. Furthermore, most of my schedule is based on how many things I want to learn in a certain moment, meaning that curiosity and knowledge are my favorite and strongest passions of all. Moreover, and in the context of the class, I'm excited to learn a new programming language and I expect to master relevant tools for the contemporary professional world.

Despite telling you all those things about myself, there aren't enough words to describe myself... so if you would like to learn more about me or simply talk about anything, don't be shy. Personally, it was a long ago since I had the pleasure to met the author of a book in person and I have never met the writer of any technical book. After this conversation with Russ Olsen, I must say that I'm very fortunate to be one of the persons who have had the chance to share the same, although digital, space as this programmer and for having Russ as the first of its kind.  Although we only shared with him an hour of the class, he had the chance to talked us about a bunch of things, technical and personal alike. Functional Programming: A present solution for future problems

If you read the past entry, you can be thinking by now that I will develop another sociological analysis. Nevertheless, Hinsen, K made such a concise and straight-forward article that the only thing I could add to its discussion is an objective opinion. The promises of functional programming, (2009) [1]   presents to the reader an easy-to-understand approach to one of the toughest, yet simple topics I've ever faced as a computer science student: Functional Programming. When I started to program back in 2018, I never imagined the different tastes of problem-solving strategies used in the technological industry. Rich Hickey: "Clojure, I'm your father"

In the episode  Rich Hickey on Clojure we get to know the Clojure's creator, Rich Hickey. As an introduction as well as a personal statement, I would like to highlight the basic idea in which Clojure was formed: Frustration.  The discussion starts with a brief explanation of the author's decision to create a Lisp-like language in 2009, same year where well-established technologies, such as Java, C++ or even Python, were becoming  mainstream tools throughout the industry. As Hickey mentions, although these programmable utensils were popular, all of them lacked the power of adding macros or different processes to run under compilation time. Furthermore, they all share a relatively chunky syntax, making them suitable for lazy in addition to unprepared programmers for unhanded data manipulation.  After 30 minutes, he roasted the entire tool-set I've been trying to completely master during the last 3 years... but he's right.
